The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted contraband worth ₦3.22 billion and generated ₦28.5 billion in revenue between March and May 2026.

Acting Controller, DC Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this on Wednesday, June 18, 2026, during a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Ibadan.

Adewole said the seizures followed intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with sister security agencies. Items intercepted include 1,537 bags of foreign parboiled rice worth ₦286.8m, 56 sacks of used shoes worth ₦368.1m, 1,105 used tyres worth ₦204.4m, 1,769 wraps of cannabis, 5,595 packs of Tramadol worth ₦1.17bn, and 3 pump-action rifles.

Three suspects were arrested over the firearms seizure and are undergoing investigation, while another suspect was apprehended for impersonating Customs officers to defraud job seekers. The Command worked with the Amotekun Corps on that case.

“Recruitment into the Nigeria Customs Service is transparent and merit-based. The public should disregard anyone asking for money to secure employment,” Adewole warned.

On revenue, the Controller said the Command collected ₦28.5bn in Q2 2026, representing an 8% increase over the ₦26.2bn collected in the same period of 2025.

He attributed the performance to officers’ professionalism and cooperation from compliant traders. The Command also presented commendation awards to outstanding officers during the briefing.

Adewole commended CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his leadership and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation.
