Awujale of Ijebuland,Sikiru Adetona,Joins Ancestors At 91

His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland has passed away at the age of 91.
The monarch died yesterday – Sunday, July 13, 2025, just hours after the announcement of the death of his longtime friend, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oba Adetona ascended to the throne on April 2, 1960, and reigned for over 64 years, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in Nigerian history.
He was widely regarded as a symbol of cultural pride, political wisdom, and royal integrity, leaving a lasting impact on the Ijebu kingdom and traditional rulership in Nigeria.
A royal father like no other, bold, principled, and fiercely devoted to the progress of his people, Kabiyesi redefined traditional leadership in Nigeria. For sixty-five years, he stood tall as a custodian of history, culture, and integrity.
A great philanthropist, his voice resonated far beyond Ijebuland, speaking truth to power, mentoring generations, instituting legacies and shaping public discourse with clarity and courage.
May the Kabiyesi’s soul rest in peace.

Burial rites and other funeral arrangements would be announced subsequently by the town and stakeholders.
