See Why Ooni of Ife can not See his newborn Crown prince anytime soon

Nigerians on social media, particularly those of Yoruba descent, woke up to the exciting news that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his wife, Olori Silekunola, finally welcomed their first child together since they got married.

It was reported that the highly revered monarch shared the exciting news of his son’s arrival on Wednesday, November 18.

Sharing the news he wrote;

“To God be the glory great things he has done.
Hearty congratulations to the entire House of Oduduwa and Olori Silekunola who today birthed a Prince to the Royal throne of Oduduwa.
Mother and child are doing well to the glory of God Almighty.”

The King’s spokesperson Yera Moses Olafare also shared the good news online. He wrote

THE HEIR TO THE THRONE OF ODUDUWA IS BORN

This is to officially inform the general public that The Almighty Olodumare has blessed the House Oduduwa with a crown Prince as our mother Yeyeluwa, Olori Silekunola Naomi Ogunwusi gave birth to a bouncing baby boy at the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 18th November 2020.

Mother and child are in a perfect condition.

Congratulations to the Royal family, the kingdom of Ife(The Source), Yoruba race and the entire descendants of Oduduwa worldwide on the save arrival of this Heir to the sacred throne of the Ooni of Ife.

Signed;
Comrade Moses Olafare,
Director, Media & Public Affairs,
Ooni’s Palace.

However, amid the excitement of the prince’s arrival, palace sources have now revealed that the monarch will not be allowed to set eyes on his son any time soon, Kemi Ashefon reports.

The same media gathered that the reason for the development has a lot to do with longstanding tradition, that forbids an Ooni from seeing the newborn or the mother until the natural hair of the child has been completely scraped off, and this could be in about six months time.

In addition, the sources disclosed that some rites would be performed before the heir to the throne is brought to the palace, and his arrival would be widely celebrated.

The palace source was quoted to have said:

“Then, some rites would have been performed and he would now be brought to the palace amidst pomp and pageantry. No Ooni sees newborn babies, they are given birth to outside the palace.”

Recall that some months ago, the queen had to vacate the palace while she was still heavily pregnant and the action resulted in speculations about a fault marriage.

However, a post on the official Instagram page of the queen dismissed such rumours and assured concerned parties that her marriage is intact.
