OGUN POLICE RECORD SAME-DAY BREAKTHROUGH, ARREST SUSPECTED CULTIST, RECOVER PISTOL AND LIVE CARTRIDGE

…CP OJAJUNI REASSURES RESIDENTS, ORDERS SUSTAINED MANHUNT FOR FLEEING SUSPECTS

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a same-day breakthrough in an operation targeting suspected cultism and armed robbery in Abeokuta, with operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arresting a 30-year-old suspect, Idris Ob arayi, and recovering a locally made pistol and one live cartridge. The operation followed a distress report received at about 2:30 a.m. on 20 October 2026 concerning suspected gunfire and screams in the Oke Ago-Owu area.

Acting promptly on the information, the operatives mobilised to the location, prompting the suspects to flee. The firearm and ammunition were recovered during the pursuit, while sustained tracking and investigative efforts led to the arrest of Ob arayi at his hideout in Ita Ogboni, Igbo re, Abeokuta, at about 5:45 p.m. the same day. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly admitted to membership of the Aiye confraternity and claimed ownership of the recovered items. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances of the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the SWAT operatives for their prompt response and effective follow-up, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and the swift apprehension of criminal suspects. He assured residents that credible information would continue to receive prompt attention and that operations to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects would be sustained. The Command encourages residents to go about their lawful activities and report suspicious incidents through appropriate police channels, assuring the public of its continued vigilance in safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State.
