IDIRIKO, OGUN STATE The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the seizure of 43 consignments of smuggled goods with a total Duty Paid Value of N3.15 billion within 15 days of assumption of office by its new Controller.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abdulhamid Ibrahim, disclosed this on Wednesday during his maiden press briefing at the Command headquarters in Idiroko.
Ibrahim, who assumed office on September 29, 2026, said the seizures were the result of intensified surveillance, strategic intelligence deployment and collaboration with sister security agencies and community stakeholders.
According to him, the Command recorded a major breakthrough on October 2, 2026, when operatives acting on credible intelligence intercepted three trucks along the border corridors at about 4:30 a.m.
"After physical examination as enshrined in Section 227 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, Truck one, a Sino Howo truck with registration number MSW-232-XA was found to contain 2,740 cartons of foreign Siddo Pasta concealed with 500 cartons of Oki Condensed Milk. The second Howo truck with registration TFA-674-XA contained 6,000 cartons of foreign Ginny Pasta, while the third, an Iveco truck KMC-702-ZR was loaded with 6,500 cartons of foreign Doga Pasta," he said.
The Controller added that on October 4, at about 1:34 a.m., along the Afami- Dangote-Itori axis, officers intercepted a Dangote truck with registration number FZE-552-DA carrying 100 bags of foreign parboiled rice concealed with Mica and Gypsum stones.
In a related operation bordering on national security and public health, Ibrahim said operatives on October 11 intercepted a 10-tyre truck with registration AKL-456-XL laden with 321 pieces of Army camouflage face caps and 27,831 pieces of unregistered drugs including codeine cough syrup, injections, eye drops and supplements without NAFDAC numbers.
He warned that both military accoutrements and unwholesome medicaments pose severe threats to national security and public well-being.
Ibrahim disclosed that five trucks valued at N1.235 billion will be forfeited to the Federal Government in line with Section 248 of the NCS Act, 2023.
Other seizures, he listed, include 4,013 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and one wrap of Canadian Loud, 950 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 660 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 106 bales of second-hand clothing, 4 bundles of used pneumatic tyres, 1,320 pieces of new shoes, 3,700 pieces of used shoes, 1,250 pieces of used bags, and 13 foreign-used vehicles including Lexus LX600 2022, Toyota Venza 2019, and Hyundai Tucson models.
Ibrahim, who said the seizures underscore the Command's zero-tolerance for economic sabotage, attributed the successes to the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR PhD, who is also Chairman of the World Customs Organization Council.
He announced that the seized Cannabis Sativa would be handed over to the NDLEA Idiroko Special Command in line with inter-agency synergy.
"Smugglers and their collaborators are hereby warned to steer clear of Ogun I Command. We remain vigilant, alert and ready to confront any threat to the economic and security interests of our nation," Ibrahim warned.
