His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, the Arole Iganmode and Olota of Ota, Awori Kingdom, has decried the infiltration of quacks into journalism, saying it has watered down the integrity of the profession as the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
The monarch noted that those without the requisite training and ethics of the profession cannot deliver on the core mandates of journalism.
"I usually encounter many of them at different events with packages of gadgets impressing the presence of Journalists while they are not equipped with metrics of the profession" he affirms.
"For you as members to keep and sustain the societal recognition accorded to the job, you must prove your mettle before people will acknowledge your efforts," Oba Obalanlege said.
The Olota, who is also known as Lanlege Ekun II, highlighted the issues while the newly elected Union leaders led by Comrade Egbewunmi Olatunji paid him a courtesy visit, charged members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun West Independent Chapel, to pursue professionalism before money, stressing that financial benefits will naturally follow excellence and credibility.
He assured the Union of his support, describing journalism as his own constituency. Recall, The monarch is a veteran journalist who has garnered a wealth of experience working with different media houses, including international media organizations in Europe where he performed creditably.
