ABUJA, NIGERIA - The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” as its authentic candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, while declaring Mr. Abayomi Hunye an impostor and warning members of the public against dealing with him on behalf of the party.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday, August 24, 2026, and signed by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, amid emerging claims over the party’s governorship ticket in Ogun State.
The party maintained that there was no ambiguity regarding its choice of candidate, stressing that Senator Adeola emerged from the APC governorship primary and remains its duly nominated candidate for the forthcoming election.
According to the party, Adeola will contest the governorship election alongside his running mate, Balogun Kudirat Abiodun in the coming gubernatorial election in Ogun State.
The APC described Hunye as an “impostor”, insisting that he has no authority to claim or represent the party’s governorship ticket.
The party explained that Hunye has been under suspension since April 7, 2026, following a petition initiated by executives of his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspension, it said, was subsequently ratified at the local government level and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
The allegations against Hunye, according to the APC, include engaging in activities considered injurious to the image of the party and deliberately taking actions capable of causing disaffection and division among its members.
Consequently, the party declared that Hunye “lacks the standing to represent the APC in any capacity.”
The national leadership therefore rejected any claim by Hunye to the party’s governorship ticket or any other mandate purportedly issued in his favour.
Reaffirming Senator Adeola’s position, the APC said the names and details of its governorship candidate and running mate had already been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and relevant INEC guidelines.
The party attached documents to its statement, including an INEC temporary acknowledgement slip, which indicated that the submission was made on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The development, according to the APC, further established Senator Adeola and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as the party’s officially nominated candidates for the Ogun State governorship election.
The party consequently urged its members, supporters and the general public to disregard any contrary claim concerning the APC governorship ticket.
The ruling party also issued a strong warning to individuals, organisations and members of the public against entering into political or financial transactions with Hunye in the name of the APC.
The party said it would not accept responsibility for any financial loss, legal dispute or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings.
It further disclosed that its legal team had been directed to commence contempt proceedings and lodge a formal complaint with relevant security agencies over what it described as “gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
The APC also appealed to media organisations to exercise caution in granting Hunye publicity or providing him with a platform to make claims on behalf of the party.
According to the party, giving him such a platform could amount to complicity in what it described as a fraudulent act.
Against the backdrop of the controversy, the APC urged its members and supporters across Ogun State to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating political tension.
The party described the controversy as an attempt to create confusion and provoke its members ahead of the 2027 election.
It therefore appealed to APC supporters to disregard what it described as provocations and continue to work towards the success of the party in the forthcoming election.

The latest declaration by the APC national leadership appears to have drawn a clear line under the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship ticket in Ogun State.

For now, the party’s message is unequivocal: Senator Adeola “Yayi” is the APC’s recognised governorship candidate for Ogun State in 2027, while Abayomi Hunye has no mandate to represent the party.
