Cross sections of TRACE officers and other sister agencies at the event
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) have raised alarm over the high rate of road crashes in the state, urging drivers to shun drugs, avoid driving against traffic, and obey all traffic rules.
Speaking at a stakeholders sensitization meeting recently, themed: "SAFETY IS EVERYBODY'S RESPONSIBILITY" TRACE Acting and most senior officer, Commander Elias Omonayajo, who was ably represented by Commander Oluwatoyin Fatoberu, Head of Public Education and Enlightenment, TRACE, charged all road users to embrace safety. She urged drivers to care for their souls and others, avoid "ember rush" to meet financial responsibilities, and stop the menace of drivers and road users habits of cursing traffic officers for doing their job. She also highlighted the common maxims of "Prevention is better than cure. The embrace according to her goes a long way to prevent massive losses to accident casualties and their families. She reiterated that each loss have negative ripple effects in lives of families and dependants of every deaths recorded in crashes, an experience which the traffic agency is always ready to put a stop to. Road signs must be learnt and obeyed," she said.
Commander Ojuoro Shola, Head of Planning and Statistics, at the forum relayed statistic figures which are alarming as he declared Ogun continues to record higher accident rates than expected.
Emphatically, Ojuoro questioned whether road users were the ones refusing to adhere to sensitization guidelines or if traffic agencies were failing in their duties. From records, "Sensitization began since 1988, for decades,our road networks are not supposed to have these high rates of accidents," he said. The agency's records for first quarter of 2026 was 88 crashes with 65 casualties. Imagine number of families that suffers and its economic implications. That's not our target as an agency. He encourages drivers to always "see themselves as the only sane person on the road." therefore, always obey and care for traffic signs and obligations.
In his charge, Commander Adekunle Ariyo Ajibade, the TRACE Area 4,Commander, who gave the welcome address reiterated the agency commitment to ensure crashes are reduced to zero which is one sure way regular orientation and sensitization events are organised for stakeholders in the state, driving towards changing traffic crashes occurrence narratives.
The Ota Divisional Commander, Salau Oludare, added, the efforts of the agency for organizing the programme is to use all means bring the behavioral attributes of Drivers and other road users to bearest minimum levels, such that the state crashes statistics would attract zero in tolerance.
CSP Peter Onime, the Divisional Police Officer, Ota Central Police Station in his remarks, highlighted drugs as a major factor in crashes involving motorcyclists and drivers. Also urged commuters to always board vehicles at approved motor parks to arrive destinations safely to avoid kidnapping and other social vices that are rampant these days.
Guests from other sister agencies are Senior Route Commander Mamudu Adamu, Head of Operations Ota FRSC unit,CSC Musbau Babatunde, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Officer Olusesi from Fire Service. Contributions from these senior officers also highlights importance of safe driving and charges the presence of stakeholders of: Union members, Logistics managers and other road users invited to the event to take home lessons learnt, ensure same are relayed to their respective parks and colleagues to make safe driving and Zero tolerance of accidents a collective efforts in the gateway state.
Other TRACE senior officers at the event comprises of Commander Aduroja, Ijako unit Commander, Cmdr Adekanmbi Onasoga,Agbara Division, Cmdr Salako Ogunleye, Atan Division, Cmdr Ogunkoya, Unit Commander, Ijoko. Cmdr Gafar, Oke-Odan and hosts of other operatives who all made wholesome contributions towards achieving a safer driving habits at the sensitization event.
