"We Wanted To Teach Her A Lesson" — Suspects Confess
While efforts to continue curbing the menace of social vices and the recent crime busting chamadaries in the gateway state of Nigeria by the gallant officers led by the Commissioner of Police, The Ogun State Police Command has eventually arrested three suspects, including a former security guard of the late veteran broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, over her gruesome murder and that of her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The arrests were announced on Thursday by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The suspects are Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36. According to police investigations, the suspects allegedly carried out the attack with the intention of "teaching her a lesson."
Addressing journalists, CP Ojajuni disclosed that the police received a report on June 21, 2026, at about 4 p.m. concerning suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku's residence.
According to him, the front door of the house had been partially damaged, while the security post within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention.
Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, the security guard, inside the security house. The body of Madam Oyesiku was later found in a pool of blood in the living room of the main residence.
The Commissioner said the crime scene was professionally processed and investigators soon discovered that the deceased's Lexus RX 330 SUV had been stolen, raising strong suspicions of robbery and murder.
The Command immediately launched an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations.
These efforts yielded results on June 22 when detectives traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330. Although the vehicle's ignition key and number plates had been removed, investigators found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, confirming ownership.
One of the major breakthroughs in the case came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination, generating valuable leads that assisted detectives in identifying the suspects.
Further intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of his alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer.
According to the police, Philip confessed during interrogation and admitted coordinating the attack. He allegedly revealed that he recruited the two other suspects to participate in the crime.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances he harboured against Madam Oyesiku during the period he worked as her security guard.
"He stated that the murder was intended to teach her a lesson," the Commissioner said.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects struck on Saturday, June 20, 2026. They allegedly overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access into the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku.
After killing the veteran broadcaster, the suspects allegedly murdered Adetayo and fled with the Lexus SUV, which was later recovered at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State through intelligence-driven operations.
The Commissioner said the conspiracy involving the three suspects ultimately led to the deaths of both Madam Oyesiku and her security guard.
Following the confessional statements, detectives carried out further searches linked to the suspects and recovered several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, a black pen and other items believed to be connected to the crime.
CP Ojajuni stressed that despite the confessions and evidence recovered, the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
He assured the public that investigations are continuing and that the Command remains committed to ensuring diligent prosecution of all persons connected with the crime.
"The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book," the Commissioner stated.
