The Apex leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ojokoro LCDA has commended Hon. Emmanuel Olotu for his doggedness to have a standstill despite external infiltrations into the affairs of the local government as regards the Lagos House of Assembly primaries.
The leaders who spoke through the Lisa of Egba Land, High Chief Yomi Olaogun, said the incumbent’s victory at the polls to secure a return ticket did not come easily, as he had shown passion to ensure he liberated the local government from external forces.
Speaking shortly after the result of Ward K was announced, he said party members stood their ground to ensure the votes were counted in Wards I, J, and K. While G and H were not counted due to a pocket of issues, which made security advise that everyone be dispersed in order to protect the electorates as hoodlums were already seen forming an assemblage to lay mayhem on the people.
Regardless, an election was held in Wards I, J, and K due to their closeness to Police Divisions Headquarters Ijaiye Ojokoro and Alakuko Police Stations and due to the professionalism of the DPOs of the two stations, who helped to ensure orderliness while the people queued behind the banner of their preferred aspirants.
It was on record that the officials counted members in accordance with the electoral act and party guidelines, and under the supervision of INEC, results were announced at the various wards before the electorates.
In Ward G, no election took place due to pockets of violence, and also in Ward H, no election was held, as three out of 5 aspirants vying for the seat were from that ward: Makinde, Onitiri, and Jamiu Abolore. So their loyalists could not allow voting to take place, as they were not orderly.
However, in Ward I, the incumbent who was seeking a second term, Hon. Emmanuel Olotu, pulled 514 votes, while his closest rival, whom he defeated in the 2022 primary election after serving a second term but is seeking a third, Hon. Makinde, scored 303.
Voting was also conducted in Ward J, and Hon. Makinde secured a win with 333 while Hon. Olotu pulled 241 votes.
In Ward K it was a watertight race with little margin to have a winner in that ward; Hon. Olotu secured 685 votes against Hon. Makinde, who has 650 votes.
At the end of the polls from the three wards out of five where elections were properly conducted, the result was collated as follows, Hon. Emmanuel Ojo Olotu scored 1,440 votes, while Hon. Rasheed Lanre Makinde pulled 1,286 votes to come second in the race.
As Hon. Olotu advances as the party’s flag bearer, his triumph is said to have marked another milestone in the journey toward sustained development and effective legislative service for the good people of Ifako Ijaiye Constituency 02.
Also speaking, another member of the Apex Leadership of the party in Ojokoro, who was the immediate past party chairman, Prince Adewale Bello, said, “In my ward, Ward H, election could not take place as there were pockets of issues among some aspirants who were also from that ward, but the people, despite all levels of intimidation from some external forces, have elected a candidate who is marketable, who can use his financial and intellectual capacity to garner votes for the party in the general elections.”
He also thanked party members for displaying a high degree of doggedness and for not bowing to external powers and for believing in the native leadership.
“As we prepare for general elections, we are all ready to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Hamzat, Hon. Olabinjo, and also our own Oxygen Hon. Olotu secure a landslide victory at the polls come January 2027” Prince Bello concluded.
