One of the grassroots aspirants for Ota State Constituency I, ahead of the 2027 elections, Hon. Kelani Jeleel Abolaji (KJA), has reaffirmed his commitment to use public office, if elected into the State House of Assembly, to attract greater dividends of democracy to the people of the constituency.
He made this declaration during a "Meet the Press" programme organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun West Independent Chapel.
The interactive session, designed to provide aspirants an avenue to present their intentions, agendas and unique plans to the electorate, saw Hon. Abolaji outline his vision for people-oriented representation.
According to him, he has, through his private business engagements, promoted skills acquisition among youths in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government for years, noting that skill-based empowerment would remain a major priority alongside his legislative responsibilities.
“There are several initiatives I have used my influence and connections to bring to this local government, benefitting towns and wards across the area,” he said.
He cited his facilitation of the Federal Government’s T-MAX programme, a skill-based empowerment initiative introduced under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari, which provided beneficiaries with tools and equipment relevant to their acquired skills upon graduation.
“As I speak, thousands of people, including tailors, professional hairdressers and graphic designers, have benefited immensely from the programme through the provision of needed machines and equipment,” he added.
Hon. Abolaji stressed that if he could achieve such interventions as a private citizen outside government, his election into public office would create broader opportunities to do more.
“My political representation will enable me explore all available opportunities to lift my people out of poverty through skills and meaningful empowerment. I do not believe in sharing peanuts to electorates while in office, but in delivering life-changing projects that make real differences in their lives,” he stated.
He further pledged to prioritize youth and sports development, support for the less privileged and physically challenged persons, women empowerment through his "Owodokowo KJA" initiative, and other people-focused programmes aimed at extending democratic dividends to Ota State Constituency I.
“If given the opportunity to serve, these will remain my priority,” he promised.
