ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA - The Senator representing Ogun West at the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has congratulated Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on the successful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress.
Senator Adeola joined other APC chieftains across Ogun State at the congress convened to elect a new State Executive Committee to steer the affairs of the party for another four years.
At the end of the exercise, the party reaffirmed its confidence in Chief Yemi Sanusi, who was re-elected as State Chairman alongside 35 other members of the State Executive Committee for a fresh four-year term.
Describing the congress as peaceful and well-organised, Senator Adeola said the exercise reflected unity and maturity within the Ogun State political family.
According to him, the seamless process demonstrated by the APC in the state remains cohesive and focused.
The congress, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, was ratified through a voice affirmation by 1,180 accredited delegates and statutory delegates.
The exercise was supervised by the APC Congress Committee Chairman, Chief Wale Ohu, in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ensuring compliance with due process.
Speaking after the congress, Senator Adeola emphasised party supremacy and loyalty, saying, “Party is supreme. I joined other faithful APC members at our State Congress where our Chairman, Alhaji Yemi Sanusi, re-emerged as the Ogun State APC Chairman alongside other members of the State Executive Council of our great party”, he said.
He noted that the event was well attended by party leaders and elected representatives, including Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu (Ogun Central), Senator Kola Bajomo, Senator Gbenga Obadara, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and members of the House of Representatives such as Hon. Olumide Osoba, Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, Hon. Gboyega Isiaka, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, among other federal and state government functionaries.
Apart from Chief Yemi Sanusi as State Chairman, other key officials elected include: Alhaja Aminat Adigun – State Women Leader; Prince Aderibigbe Tella – State Secretary and Chief Yemi Adelani – State Organising Secretary.
Addressing party faithful at the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun stressed that internal democracy must go beyond rhetoric and be genuinely practised.
He cautioned against patronage politics and backroom deals, urging members to embrace principled leadership and transparent processes.
The governor maintained that sustainable electoral victories would only be achieved through organisational discipline, grassroots mobilisation, and clear, service-driven messaging.
He commended delegates for affirming the consensus arrangement in line with their conscience and conviction, without inducement.
Looking ahead to 2027, Abiodun urged members to intensify engagement at ward and local government levels, communicate government achievements honestly, listen attentively to citizens, and win the confidence of undecided voters.
He also appealed to aspirants who did not emerge victorious to remain committed to the party, underscoring the need for unity and collective progress.
The governor reminded the newly elected executives that their responsibilities are strategic rather than ceremonial.
He charged them to uphold the party’s constitution, promote unity, reconcile aggrieved members, ensure inclusiveness for youths and women, and strengthen party structures from ward to state levels.
In his remarks, Chief Wale Ohu described Governor Abiodun as a unifying figure whose leadership has strengthened cohesion within the party.
While delivering his acceptance speech, Chief Yemi Sanusi expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their roles in fortifying the party’s structure.
He pledged that the new executive would justify the confidence reposed in them by reinforcing party frameworks, promoting fairness and equity, and creating broader opportunities for young people within the party.
Sanusi emphasised that discipline remains non-negotiable and assured members that the leadership would remain open, accessible, and committed to serving the collective interest of the party.
