In a message marking the 2026 Mother’s Day celebration, the First Lady described mothers as the quiet builders of the nation’s future and the heartbeat of every home.
Mother’s Day, celebrated annually in many countries in March or May, honours motherhood, maternal bonds, and the significant influence mothers have on society.
According to Mrs Tinubu, the dedication and sacrifices of mothers—both big and small—play a vital role in shaping families and communities.
“Today, I celebrate every mother across Nigeria. Your love, care, and sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” she said.
She noted that beyond the major sacrifices mothers make, the little everyday acts of love and care are what truly define motherhood.
“On this special day, we remember those quiet moments that show a mother’s love and we say thank you for the warmth and devotion you give so selflessly,” she added.
The First Lady described mothers as the true heroes of the nation, acknowledging their role in nurturing families and building strong communities.
She also encouraged mothers to continue guiding and mentoring their children by passing on wisdom, strength, and positive values to the next generation.
“I urge our mothers to keep teaching and guiding their children so that the values they pass on will benefit future generations,” she said.
The First Lady also offered prayers for families, expressing hope that parents would live long enough to enjoy the rewards of raising their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mother’s Day is widely observed in different parts of the world to recognise and celebrate the enduring impact of mothers on families and society.
