In the spirit of service to humanity and restoring hopes to less-privileges people in the society, Abeokuta Coral Lions Club under the District 404B3 of Lions Clubs International has covered Surgery and other medical expenses for Olanrewaju Oluwole at Moranugba Hospital and Maternity Clinic, Abeokuta.
The largest group in humanitarian service provider has over the years frequently intervene in paying hospital bills and covering medical expenses for pupils and children from less-privileged backgrounds. This action is part of Lions Clubs' core mission to support community health and alleviate financial burdens on low earned families.
The 12 years Olanrewaju Oluwole, a pupil of Nawarudeen Primary School, Ikija, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, according to Abeokuta Coral Lions Club's 2025/2026 President, Ln Babajide Olaleye, was diagnosed of 'Right Inguinoscrotal Hernia and the recommended treatment was Surgical correction (Herniorrhaphy) as it has caused him reducible scrotal swelling.'
Ln Olaleye said: "On October 18, 2025, during a courtesy visit to one of our members who recently lost her mother, I had an unexpected encounter that deeply touched me. While at the mosque, I was introduced as the new President of the Abeokuta Coral Lions Club. Shortly afterward, a woman approached me with a heartfelt plea.
"The woman, a classroom teacher at Nawarudeen Primary School, Ikija, Abeokuta, explained that one of her pupils urgently requires surgery. Unfortunately, the boy’s parents are unable to afford the medical expenses. She showed me both the child’s photograph and the medical bill issued by the General Hospital, amounting to ₦119,750.
"Moved by the situation, I felt that as Lions, we have both the compassion and responsibility to intervene. This is not just about paying a bill — it’s about restoring health, giving hope, and saving a life.
"Therefore, a visit was made to Olanrewaju’s school for further assessment. The Headmistress presented the child for clinical examination conducted by Ln. Dr. Adekanmbi. He was diagnosed of Right Inguinoscrotal Hernia causing reducible scrotal swelling while recommended treatment was surgical correction (Herniorrhaphy).
"It was also noted that the State Hospital, Ijaye, had earlier diagnosed him with a hydrocele, and that the ₦119,750 quoted covered only theatre costs — excluding medications and post-operative care. Following discussions with the school and the initial evaluation, Ln. Dr. Adekanmbi reached out to a pediatric surgeon for further specialist review and intervention.
"After these steps, the young Oluwole was presented at Moranugba Hospital Clinics and Maternity, Abeokuta, with his father, for pre-operative evaluation and surgical preparation.
"With the financial contribution and collective efforts of Abeokuta Coral Lions members through Chairman, Global Service Committee Chairperson, Ln Abidemi Oyedele toward the surgery and medical care, Master Oluwole was finally operated on October 28, 2025, at 8:30 am. This collective act of kindness demonstrates our unwavering commitment to humanity and the Lions’ motto — “We Serve," Ln Olaleye said.
He added that the boy's case reminds them of the true essence of Lionism — to serve, to care, and to make a difference.
