The deputy leader of Lagos Island local government and honourable councillor representing ward C1, Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan today friday 25 july, 2024 presented his account of stewardship to the residents of ward C1 and the general public as his 8-year tenure ends.
Upon assumption of office in 2017, Hon. Oyekan hit the ground running with community engagement and pledged to offer qualitative representation cum dividends of democracy.
In a press statement made available to newsmen, Hon. Oyekan attributed his record-breaking achievements to sincerity of purpose and residents' support.
The Iconic council legislator's outstanding works include social welfare support for residents, qualitative healthcare, universal basic and tertiary education development, community development project, economic empowerment, security and peace advocacy and grassroot sports development.
To mark his 100 days in office as a honourable councillor, Hon. Oyekan constructed a BoreHole Facility at Ojuolokun quarters in Isale-Eko to resolve scarcity and meet daily usage of residents. He built additional four(4) water supply systems across Lagos Island local government.
To improve residents' standard of living, Hon. Oyekan organised periodic distribution of assorted food items, household essentials and relief materials to the vulnerable in his political ward and across Lagos Island.A social welfare scheme commended by community leaders and stakeholders.
Hon. Oyekan organised free medical outreach for vulnerable residents.The beneficiaries were screened for different ailments.
The medical team dispensed medications and offered tips for a healthy living.
He offset medical bills and distributed gift items to new year day babies and nursing mothers in Lagos Island maternity hospital.
In his effort to promote knowledge acquisition and academic excellence among students on Lagos Island, Hon. Oyekan launched the Basic Universal and Tertiary Education Development Initiative in 2021. He set up an annual free summer coaching and
skill development cum entrepreneurship scheme.
In the last four years, over 5,000 students were tutored. In addition,he distributed learning materials and teaching aids to teachers.
Hundreds of youths had been trained in different skills.
He also presented scholarships running into millions of naira to indigent students.
In December 2024, the education development advocate rolled out free school buses for students across the Island.
To ease pedestrian mobility and restore environmental aesthetics, the council legislator reconstructed Two(2) Trunk C road networks at Ehin Iga and Ologunro streets.
Hon. organised periodic environmental sanitation exercise.
Sanitary workers were engaged to desilt and evacuate drainage systems in ward C1.
Recognizing the commercial status of the premier local government, Hon. Oyekan established an economic empowerment scheme to scale-up local economy and residents' standard of living.
In the last eight(8) years, he has disbursed over Thirty-five million Naira (N35,000,000) business development fund to petty traders, small and medium scale business owners.
He distributed equipment to artisans and technicians across the area council.
As an advocate of community policing, Hon. Oyekan donated a patrol vehicle to Ebute-Ero Police station and one utility bus to a Lagos community security outfit(FOLUMO) to bolster security architecture.
He offers regular financial support for community security outfits on
Lagos Island local government area.
The frontline Lagos Prince also introduced alternative dispute resolution mechanism to resolve community and individual conflicts.
He is a security conscious grassroot politician.
To foster unity and peaceful co-existence among the youths on the Island, Hon. Oyekan organised a friendly football match competition in 2023. According to him, the round leather game was also staged to redirect the youngsters' energy to productive venture.
Hon. Oyekan expressed gratitude to the All Progressives Congress(APC) leaders, ward C1 elders and residents for their support.
As Hon. Prince Taiwo Ajibade Oyekan assume the Chairmanship Seat of Lagos Island local government, and he reiterated his commitment to qualitative leadership and progressive governance.
