Buhari’s Passing: Shettima To Accompany Late Former President's Remains Home

President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria. This decision comes after President Tinubu officially announced Buhari’s passing, which occurred in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at around 4:30 pm, following a prolonged illness.

President Tinubu’s Directive VP Shettima has been tasked with proceeding to the UK to bring Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.

National Mourning President Tinubu has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff across the country as a mark of respect for the late leader.

Tinubu has spoken with Buhari’s widow, Aishat Buhari, to express his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the nation.

The development was announced through a statement by presidential media adviser Bayo Onanuga, confirming Buhari’s death and the subsequent arrangements for his remains to be brought back to Nigeria
