“Gangs Of Lagos” Movie, A “Total Abomination” - Lagos Govt

The “Gangs of Lagos” film/series promoters have come under fire from the Lagos State Government for what they have called a “total abomination” and how it has depicted the state’s culture.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, responded by saying that the film/series is “very unprofessional and misleading while its content is derogatory of our culture.” The Ministry is the governing body and guardian of Lagos’ culture.

The “Eyo Masquerade,” as depicted in the film, is “equally used as a symbol of honour for remarkable historical events,” Akinbile-Yussuf emphasised.

“It is an unjust profiling of a people and culture as being barbaric and nefarious. It depicts a gang of murderers rampaging across the State.”

“It signifies a sweeping renewal, a purification ritual to usher in a new beginning, a beckoning of new light, acknowledging the blessings of the ancestors of Lagosians,” she opined.
