Ogun AOPSHON Praises Abiodun, Described Him As Teacher-Friendly Governor

 







The Chairman, Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Ogun State Branch, Comrade. Basiru Olatunji Balogun has described the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun as uncommon governor who has impacted positively in the education sector, commended him for many steps and measures taken so far in the state which portray him rightly as a teacher-friendly governor.


Balogun, speaking with journalists in his office in Abeokuta, said the 18 seater bus gift to AOPSHON by the Governor during the World Teachers Day at MKO Abiola International Stadium was an indication the the welfare of teachers was paramount to the governor, saying that teachers  never had it so good compare to the past administrations.


He said the gesture has actually made teachers across the state to be up and doing, saying that public primary and secondary school are now major attraction to the general public.


"Let me confirm that the Governor has been rewarding teachers since inception of his administration, rewards ranging from houses, cash gift to best school administrators, state pardon of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) leadership, payment of all benefits, also his magnanimity in dashing out two bedroom bungalow to teacher and N2m and N1.5M to teachers who are most outstanding.


Also, the employment opportunity given to the wife of late Sunday Ogunjimi, a teacher in Odeda Local Government Area who slumped and died while attending a welfare meeting involving members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state". Balogun said


Speaking earlier, the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun said that his administration was in the process of renovating over 956 classrooms in primary and secondary schools, supply of 25,000 furniture to all public primary and secondary schools, while approval has been given for the commencement of Ogun Digitalized Multimedia Lesson Plan, where the teachers would be equipped with the wherewithal resources for effective educational delivery.


While appreciating the teachers for their dedication to duties and being at the forefront of achieving his administration’s agenda in the education sector, Abiodun charged them to be more innovative and embrace modern teaching methods, assuring that their welfare would not be undermined.


Also, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, in his welcome address, said the theme of this year’s celebration is in tandem with the incumbent administration’s agenda to reposition the education sector for effectiveness and efficiency, adding that the state government was glad to identify with the teachers in celebrating their day.


On his part, the State Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Comrade Akeem Lasisi, commended the state government for abolishing all forms of levies in the public schools and urged the government to be ready to spend more money on education, while the allowance for teachers serving in the rural areas should be increased.
