DAILY DOWNPOUR: FRSC LAGOS SECTOR COMMANDER OGUNGBEMIDE URGES DRIVERS TO ADHERE TO CAUTION, SAFETY RULES

As responsible organisation who knows it's onions, coupled with traffic and road management authority, it has become imminent for the Lagos sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps to warn and Sensitises residents and all road users in handling seasonal regular flooding experience especially with commuttets and drivers alike.

Daily downpour in Lagos has become a concern for Lagos residents lately. The cases of heavy rain has resulted in floods that sweep away vehicles and passengers.

In view of this, the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide has warned drivers in the state to always exercise caution while driving. This, he said, was to avert the hazards associated with heavy rain and flood during the season.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, the Sector Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide expressed worry that the heavy downpour is creating enormous traffic challenges and the menace that result in loss of lives and properties. He therefore, urged everyone especially the drivers to join hands to tackle the menace, NAOSNP can report.

According to him, with the rainy season and heavy downpour being experienced almost everyday in the State, incidents of flood which sweep away vehicles and passengers are becoming daily occurrence. He noted that as the lead agency in road traffic management and safety administration in the state, the Lagos State Sector Command is concerned with the ugly trend and called on all stakeholders to act fast by adhering strictly to the safety rules.

NAOSNP gathered that Ogungbemide is worried not only about the floods which hampers free movement of vehicles but also about poor visibility to drivers.

He therefore, advised drivers to take all necessary safety precautions whenever it’s raining. ‘Our advice, is that, drivers must operate with utmost caution and safety consciousness to avert the hazards associated with the weather conditions’, also ‘Drivers are advised to park at a safer place and allow the flood to recede before proceeding on the journey’, he stated.

Ogungbemide also directed patrol teams to look out for vehicles that violate the requirements for minimum safety standards, saying such vehicles must be impounded to the base to get their faults rectified, thereby stopping them from causing hazards to themselves and other road users. ‘All drivers must ensure that they drive with minimum safety standards by fixing the safety gadgets to avert the menace associated with rainy season’, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

It would be recalled that due to incessant rain downpour in the state which result in heavy flood, vehicles and people have been reportedly lost to the incidents, and all hands must be on the deck to tackle the challenges.
