The Sacked Abuja Imam Appointed To Lead Another Congregation

 

The Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Juma’at Mosque in Abuja, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, was sacked by the mosque’s Steering Committee for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over last Monday night’s attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train.

The Imam, in his Friday sermon, had criticised the President of failure to visit Kaduna over the terror attack, saying condemnation wasn’t enough. He argued that the President was in Kaduna for campaign but refused to visit the state after the bomb attack.

He was thereafter suspended by the mosque’s steering committee for criticising the President.

He said, “Everyone condemned the incident, except the bandits. So, condemnation is not enough. The President should visit the state to sympathise with the victims.

Chairman of the mosque steering committee, Sai’du Dansadau, however, said that the Imam was sacked for inciting sermon on April 1.

The Imam immediately responded, “My suspension will not stop me from speaking truth to power. It’s my duty as a Sheikh to always say the truth, and I rather say the truth and hurt my fellow human being, than to tell lies and hurt Almighty Allah”.

“God is the most powerful. He gives (enthrones) and takes away power (dethrones) from whomever He wishes”.

“My sack is a reflection of how Nigeria is today. Many people are hiding under the cover of religion to perpetrate all manner of unwholesome acts”

Sacked Abuja Imam Gets Fresh Appointment

Imam Nuhu Khalid, who was sacked on Monday by the steering committee of the Apo Legislative Quarters, has been offered another appointment as Imam in another mosque in the Federal Capital Territory.

His final dismissal was announced on Monday by the Chairman of the Steering Committee, Senate Isa Dansadau who accused Khalid of not showing remorse after his initial suspension.
The Imam said his dismissal by the mosque’s management committee was a price he had to pay for identifying with the suffering masses and speaking truth to power.

Khalid said: “By the Grace of Almighty Allah, I will be leading my new congregation this Friday because as clerics we need a platform to operate.

“There’s a Jum’mat mosque we built behind the CBN Quarters, in Abuja; I will now be leading the congregation there.”
