The Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commanding Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) ACM Peter Kibo, yesterday warned drivers and truck owners against indiscriminate parking at Ogere, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
He also cautioned motorists against excessive speed, reckless driving and overloading along the corridor.
ACM Kibo said the warning is highly imperative, having noticed the rising rate of traffic crashes along the expressway despite all the public enlightenment campaigns on the importance of obeying traffic rules.
He explained that abandoned vehicles and indiscriminate parking of trucks in Ogere, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway contributed greatly to the factors causing heavy traffic gridlocks and crashes on the busiest highway.
The Zonal Commander, said he, on behalf of the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has set up a special patrol team with mandate of ensuring full enforcement to stem the rising rate of crashes on the expressway to enable the agency achieve its 2022 strategic goals.
He further said FRSC would not relent its effort from focusing on strategies that will continuously making highways more safe for the users, noting that the Corps would also not hesitate to prosecute any motorists caught violating traffic rules.
The special patrol team, led by Lagos Sector Commander, CC Olusegun Ogungbemide; his counterpart in Ogun, CC Ahmed Umar; Corridor 1 Commander, DCC Ganiyu Kehinde Hamzat and others, it was gathered visited Ogere yesterday to observed a better strategy to be used.
The team, it was further learnt will be visible on the corridor from Lagos to Oluyole Ibadan in Oyo State.
