FRSC Officers’ Wives Take Safety Campaign To Church

 

 

 

 

It was a marvelous gathering at the full capacity Auditorium of the Living Faith Church, Kwara State  Headquarters, Gaa Imam Ilorin on Sunday, 14th November, 2021, when the Ember months road safety campaign powered by the Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA), Kwara Sector Command took the center stage.

In their bid to lend their voices and also collaborate with their husbands in the Corps’ quest to ensure a Road -traffic -Crash – free yuletide season, the Coordinator, Kwara State Chapter of the Association, Mrs Iboro Wuraola Sokunbi led her colleague in the campaign.

She expressed dissatisfaction about attitude of motorists which she said is responsible for most of the road traffic crashes.

She said these are avoidable if motorists can abide by safety rules and regulations.

She reiterated the theme for this year Ember months campaign as “Maintain Safe Speed, avoid Night travels and Enjoy Quality Road Experience”.

According to Mrs Sokunbi, ensuring safe trips at all times requires adequate attention and maintenance of vehicles, daily routine parade on vehicles. This, she said reduces the chances of mechanical faults and sudden break down of vehicles.

She condemned attitudes of parents allowing their wards who are below the regulated age of 18 to drive and also those in the habit of learning driving by proxy rather than attending the authorized driving schools hence depriving them the rudiments inherent in traffic regulations.

She highlighted tips to avoid road mishap as included but not limited to , compulsory use of seat belt , adherence to defensive driving techniques, avoidance of night travels, staying away from alcohol if we must drive, avoid eating while driving,  use of drugs or kola, avoid driving when we are fatigued, avoid speeding, use of phone while driving, avoid argument and quarrel as persengers in a vehicle, avoid being passive as a passenger in a vehicle so as to monitor the driving pattern of the driver, making use of common Sense speed limit, disallowing children below age 12 to seat in the front seat of a car.

According to her,  safety on the highway is a collective responsibility .She therefore released the FRSC Emergency toll free line (122) to the congregation. She beseeched  them to inform the Corps through the line anytime attention is required to clear obstruction or to attend to any emergency situation. She assured them of immediate response from the closest command or team to the location.

On behalf of the National president of ROSOWA, Mrs O Oyeyemi, she apreciated the State Pastor, Pastor Isreal  Aderonmu for the opportunity to use the Church as a channel to promote safety on the Highway and in Nigeria.

In attendance to give necessary support is a team of officers and men of the Kwara State Command led by the Sector Commander, CC  Jonathan Owoade.
