Update! Kano Govt Opens Up On ‘Arrest’ Of Ganduje’s Wife By EFCC

The Kano State Government has denied reports that the wife of the Governor of the state, Hafsat Ganduje, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It was widely reported that Mrs Ganduje was apprehended in Kano on Monday evening by the crack detective team of the anti-graft agency.

She was according to the reports, moved to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday for further interrogation in relation to the allegation levelled against her.

The Kano First lady was allegedly arrested based on a petition by one of her sons, Abdulazeez Ganduje, who had accused her of fraud and diversion of funds.

Ganduje had earlier been invited to report to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja on September 13 but failed to honour the invitation and then the commission threatened to arrest her.

But in a statement on Tuesday, the Kano government has described as fake news, reports of the arrest of the First lady.

In a post via his social media page, media aide to the governor, Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim, said governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his wife travelled to Abuja for a meeting on Monday are now back in Kano.

Ibrahim added that Mrs Ganduje will be attending an empowerment program in the state this afternoon and not being detained as widely reported.

He said: “Imagine, Fake News all over.”

“The Governor travelled to Abuja for a meeting with his wife as usual and he’s already back today morning to preside the State Executive Council meeting, while Her Excellency is attending an empowerment program in the State too.”
