#Oju-OreGridlock:Woman Berths Baby Girl In The Midsts

Most often providence determine when, where and how we all came to life through mediums of our mothers. Some are delivered at very expensive ambience of first-class hospital while some at a roadside with constant aids of women who would always rally round pregnant mothers with their ever ready rappers with parts of them doing the needed midwivery tasks within those circles. However we came either through the perfumed settings of the rich hospitals or the not too dirty floors of available space crave for deliveries of newest guests to our terrestrial abode, the joy is for babies and mothers to live after the whole process of bringing forth new ones.
Such was the joyful case of a pregnant woman who identified herself as Iya Darasimi and her family received their expected bundle of joy on Saturday morning in the sickening and maddening Oju-Ore, Ota, traffic gridlock.

According to the accounts of Akinlade Abiola, a Nurse who works at the Burns and Trauma Center, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, who delivered her of a baby girl, said, “I boarded a Sienna from Sango going to Ajilete Yewa, Ogun State, to visit my in-laws, and seated behind me was this gravid woman who was grimacing.

“I engaged her and asked what the problem was but she said all was well. I did not want to push too hard, but I knew all was not too well. As soon as we started the journey, she was feeling more uncomfortable but was still trying to look alright.

“On reaching the traffic gridlock at Oju-Ore, she asked the driver to pull over as she feels like using the toilet, that was when I came in again, introduced myself and showed her my Identity card and we pulled over to a filling station.

“I came down quickly, asked for permission from the pump attendants and their manager was informed so I could at least perform a Vagina Examination and be sure of the next line of action.

“I was told the next hospital from there was like 30-45 minutes drive. I had a surgical glove and I performed a Vagina Examination. She was fully dilated and delivery was imminent. Her anus was also gaping and could not hold it down anymore.

“I asked her to only push with contractions and pant when not contracting. She was also provided privacy to the highest degree possible.

“The head of the baby was guided and the neck observed for a cord around it. The anterior and posterior shoulders were born and the rest of the body.

“The cord was ligated using thread sterilized by the methylated spirit and then cut.

“Placenta also was born after noticing it has separated and she was examined for any laceration.

“She was cleaned up and the baby was given to her to breastfeed. She was also given food to eat.

“We proceeded to transfer her to the hospital for continuous care.” Nurse Abiola said.

In her reaction, Ronye, the Radio Diva, a radio presenter who had contacts with the nurse, said, “The gridlock at Oju-Ore was serious, that was why they had to pull over to a filling station.

“If they had opted to continue the journey to any nearby hospital, the life of the mother and child was at stake owing to the traffic bedlam.” She added.
