Two Soldiers feared dead, Police patrol vehicles burnt as suspected gunmen attack community

 


No fewer than 7 soldiers have been seriously injured, while 2 others have been feared killed following an attack by armed bandits on Unguwar Lalle village in Sabon Birni council area of Sokoto State.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 14, at about 2pm in the afternoon.According to a source, the bandits attacked the community on that very day riding on about 100 motorcycles.

“They came from Tilibale axis and opened fire on the soldiers that were manning a checkpoint along Sokoto-Sabon Birni road, ” he said.

He said that the Soldiers returned fire on the bandits, but that their fire power wasn’t up to that of the bandits. He added that the Soldiers were overpowered.

He said that 3 operational vehicles left Sabon Birni town with re-enforcement but were ambushed along the way and 2 soldiers were shot dead while 7 others sustained various degree of injuries.

He said that the bandits kidnapped many residents including a hospital staff. He also said that the bandits burnt down two patrol vehicles belonging to the Police and Army.

The Police Public Relation Officer of Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, when contacted said he hasn’t been briefed on the incident, he however, said he will confirm from the Police formation in the affected area.
