--- The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged road users to always make use of pedestrian bridges while crossing the ever busy expressways.
Its Mowe Unit Commander, ACC Abdullahi Denja, who made the plea in an exclusive interview in his office, decried worrisome as act of crossing the expressway without the use of pedestrian bridge, has become a norm to many people. Interestingly, the people involved acknowledged that their actions were dangerous but it appeared that was not enough to deter them from doing so as they adduced myriad of reasons for their actions.
"It is so bad as pedestrian still cross the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway despite the presence of pedestrian bridges. Many people have been knocked down and killed by hit-and-run vehicles.
"People should understand vividly that the expressway is too wide and only way to cross it is by making use of pedestrian bridges to avoid knocking down by oncoming vehicle that had already on motion. Anyone caught with this habit should always be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent," he said.
ACC Denja appealed to motorists to shun excess speed, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, lane/ route violation, obstruction, use of cell phone while driving and driving mechanically deficient vehicle on the road.
He said all motorists are expected to always drive carefully with minimum speed as the constructions along the expressway are yet to be completed, saying FRSC would always have zero tolerance for breaching of traffic rules and whoever caught would be prosecuted in accordance with traffic laws.
