Following the rising cases of road traffic indiscipline causing gridlocks and crsshes in Ogun State, especially within Ota axis, members, District 9110 of Ota Rotary Club, on Saturday, January 30, 2021, compliment the efforts of traffic management in controlling traffic and sensitised motoring public on the importance of obeying traffic rules while using the road.
The
exercise, according the Charity organization President, Rotarian Funke Salau,
aimed at ease traffic bottleneck in some affected corridors such as
Oju-Ore, Sango, Tollgate to Iyana-Iyesi where road users usually
experiences serious traffic jam.
The
humanitarian service provider group gathered as early as 8am, on the
ever-busy Tollgate axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Oju-Ore/Ilogbo
Road Roundabout and Osi-Ota Junction along with officials of Ogun State
Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC) and other traffic regulatory agencies to control traffic,
sensitising motorists on adherence to safety rules while using the road.
Rotarian
Salau said, “We are here to direct traffic alongside our very efficient
traffic regulatory officials, who have been working tirelessly to
ensure we have seamless traffic flows on our roads in Ota, to give
information to motorists about the activities of our club and in a
modest way, educate them on the need for safety through compliance to
traffic regulations.”
She
noted that as someone who lives in Sango-Ota but works in Lagos State,
commuting period are often prolonged beyond necessary and stressful,
stating, “Our Club is therefore passionate to see that travel times are
reduced and less stressful for dwellers of Ota. We have concluded plan
to make this exercise a continuous assignment”
Corroborating
her statement, Bunmi Odusanya, past President of the Club said, “This
exercise is part of our core mandate, as an international club, we are
working to better our world, improve lives and address today’s most
critical issues. As the past President, I am obliged to be here to
support what the current President is doing.”
Speaking
earlier, TRACE Area 4 Commander, Adekunle Ariyo Ajibade said, “Our
Corps is always in support of groups that are out to bring sanity to our
roads, improve traffic flows and promote compliance to traffic laws,
and the Rotary Club of Ota has always been top on the list in this.”
He
appealed to road users to always shun disobedience to safety rules
while using the road. He also warned traders obstructing roads with
their wares and goods to desists from such act, saying, henceforth, the
TRACE in conjunction with Police and other security agencies would no
longer tolerate such indiscipline, and whoever caught violating the
order would be made to face the consequences.
