FSU is a community policing unit of the Nigerian Police force shouldered with the responsibility of attending to community's gender and violence based crimes (GBV) the unit further it's services also in areas of child/ juveniles related offences and abuses.
As the new center complex is now in operation in Sango-Ota,first of it's kind to the credit of Ogun state police commands.
It's emergence becames prolific at the instance of ACP Sunday Agbonika years ago when he was transferred to the Ota Police command headquarters as the new Area Commander, where he earnestly observed flagrant and Incessant cases of child and rape in the community.
Though, a passionate and galannt police officer that breaks barriers in terms of crime bursting but poccessive of firm passion for child and women related abuses and care.
Having gone through tests and
successful trial of FSU project in Lagos State, that he initiated, where modern-day facilities were employed in equiping similar project that Ikeja area and it's command would not forget in a jiffy positive impacts felt from his touch of a successful FSU unit established and in operation till date
At Sango FSU facility center, vulnerables and victims of various Gender Based Violence are adequately attended to with the trained aids of United Nations certified police officers . Temporary Shelters provided with adequate security , sub units for professional counsellors are engaged to psychologically appeal to victims psycho and emotional needs on a regular basis.
This initiative is pivotal to a successful societal riddance of social crimes,an idea which attracts the immediate attention of the humble and generous wife of Ogun state governor,Her excellency Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, the Deputy governor,Her Excellency Eng Noimot Oyedele-Salako and notable personalities to the birth and commissioning of the pioneer project in the gateway state history.
FSU (Family Support Unit) is a distinct/separate section of the Nigeria Police, Area Command Headquarters, Ota, Ogun State. The Family Support Unit is a Community Policing initiative. It seeks to develop the traditional Nigeria Police Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) and improve its capacity to support and protect vulnerable persons, adults and children, who are victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV), sexual crimes or other abuses like trafficking.
As a result of this improved capacity, specially trained officers, working alongside Social Welfare and NGOs, investigating allegations of sexual and or physical assaults, are expected to deliver sound criminal investigations and increased prosecutions/convictions.
With the support of the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, well-meaning individuals, industries and Her Excellency Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, First Lady of Ogun State, in providing for excellent facilities and other support, the community of Sango – Ota and indeed most of Ogun State, is now assured of effective protection, leading to increased public confidence. The new, well-equipped FSU, with skilled and professional personnel, can now handle all forms of (GBV) and Domestic Violence (DV) issues, across communities in Ota Area Command and beyond.
