...As security agencies synergise to end traffic bottle-neck at Oju-Ore, others
The
Corps Commander, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps,
TRACE, 'Seni Ogunyemi, has warned motorists and travellers to stop night
driving, especially during these 'Ember Months'.
Speaking
during a programme titled 'TRACE Half Hour' on OGBC 90.5, a state owned
radio, on Friday, monitored by TheCaveat.info, Ogunyemi said night
driving is dangerous and risky as possibility of being help when in
danger is very remote.
"We should remember that the various means of travelling is by
mechanical which can develop problem we did not envisage at any time.
This can easily be amended in the day time. But in the night the help
may be far away before men of the underworld can strike", he said.
The
Corps Commander further cautioned people's attitude of demonising
"Ember Months", saying nothing demonic in the three months, but people's
negative attitude of making up things withing the months what they
missed in the previous nine months.
Speaking
in the same vein, the TRACE Area Commander, Ogun West, Ajibade Adekunle
said security agencies in Ado-Odo/Ota Council area have formed a
synergy to end traffic bottle-neck at Oju-Ore, and other part of the
area.
He said they have even co-opted the council health officials with the assistance of the chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal.
"The
synergy of the security agents have been busy driving hawkers away from
the road and ensure free flow of traffic at Oju-Ore and other places.
"But
it is surprising that people prefer committing traffic offence and pay
penalty rather than abide by the traffic rules and be safe, failing to
know it is not all about payment of money.
"Can
you immagine right in front of our office on Ilo-Awella road in Ota, a
truck driver drove against the traffic, a.k.a. 'one-way' and hit an
on-coming motocyclist carrying two passengers. One of them died on the
spot, the remaining two are still bedridden in hospitals", Ajibade said.
The
Area Commander noted that TRACE Operatives swung into action by taking
the injured to hospitals for medical attention and the dead body to Ifo
mortuary.
He
said the driver of the truck who immediately took to his heels on
seeing the manitude of the offence he committed was later arrested and
handed over to the police. He said the truck was still impounded in
TRACE office, Ota.
