…Warned articulated vehicles to stay clear road if not ready to abide by regulations
Following the consequential negative effect of incessant road crashes usually caused by articulated vehicles in the gateway state and it's attendant challenges to safe road networking.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, has warned owners/drivers of articulated vehicles, including fuel tanker to steer clear of the state road corridors if they cannot abide by established regulated standard that guides their movement on roads.

TRACE Corps Commander/CEO, ‘Seni Ogunyemi gave the warning on Saturday while reacting to gruesome killing of a fuel tanker driver and his assistance, after their DAF tanker loaded with PMS (Premium Motor Spirit) exploded at World Oil Filling Station, after Kara Bridge on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, outbound Lagos.

It was reported that the explosion occurred early Saturday morning when the tanker fell and immediately went into flame with the fire following the trail of the spilled PMS, and led to burning of 28 other parked vehicles close to the scene.

The early morning weekend multiple accident  drew top security agencies from their different offices to the scene with Commander Seni Ogunyemi leading the management team of TRACE Coprs and Commander Segun Ogungbemide, Lagos Sector Commander leading FRSC.

Speaking with public at the scene of the accident at Kara, Ogunyemi condemned what he described as "obvious careless attitude of drivers of articulated vehicles" in the area of maintenance of their vehicles as well as their reckless driving which often result to incessant accidents and killing of innocent people.

“Henceforth, apart from stiff penalties awaiting erring drivers/owners of articulated vehicles, who cannot abide by the standard rules and regulations guiding their movement on the roads, their vehicles, once apprehended will be impounded and not released till next year.

“These include proper latching of container to the truck that carries it, avoidance of leaking fuel containers, reckless driving, illegal overtaking, parking of vehicles by the road sides, lack of proper vehicle maintenance leading to brake failure, to mention only few.

“You will recall that a truck with brake failure killed a young lady right in front of her father’s hotel in Sango/Ota, last week.  This happened less than two days after a similar case occurred with a 10-tyre truck crushing a bricklayer at Tipper garage on the same area of Sango/Ota.

“Right in front of the governor’s office in Abeokuta a fuel tanker fell with fuel gushing out.  It took the quick intervention of TRACE operatives and fire fighters to prevent what would have been another disaster in the state.  This was apart from a truck losing its brake system drove into a residential home in Shagamu, killing two persons in their residence.

“Enough of these! We will no longer accommodate any vehicle parked on the road sides, any longer.  

"We are giving owners of such vehicles 24 hours to move them away from the roadsides or else TRACE operatives will toe them and will not be released till next year”, Ogunyemi warned, advising that all motoring public should abide by insurance policy to cover losses.
