Family demand justice over their son shot dead by Atan DPO

 

The family of Oladokun are demanding for justice over the death of their son, Oladokun Felix Oluwadamilare who was murdered in cold blood on Wednesday 21st of October 2020 by the Dpo of Atan Ota divisional Headquarters in Ogun state. 

Oluwadamilare who was a butcher before his untimely death was shot at close range on the neck by the police. According to an eyewitness, the incident happened when the DPO was trying to disperse peaceful protesters from lawful assembly at the Atan Agbara junction. The policemen, led by the Dpo began to shoot to disperse protesters. In the process, Oluwadamilare who was sent to collect money from some customers and was riding on a motorcycle, was hit by one of the police bullet and he died on the spot. 

The Dpo later claimed the deceased was a suspected armed robber. 

When journalists visited the family  house of Felix at 2, Olaniyi Avenue, Oluyomi, Palace Road, Atan, Ota Ogun State, had a chat with the deceased's father, Evangelist Amos Oladokun. 

The depressed father, while speaking in tears, said his son 'Oluwadamilare' has never engaged in criminal activities. He added that he, before his death a butcher likewise himself before he was called to serve God. 

He described the late Oluwadamilare as a humble and calm person, that always had respect for everyone. 

"You can ask people here about him, they will tell you he's not a trouble maker. I was surprised when the DPO referred to my son as suspected armed robber. 

"I want the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu to investigate this matter because I want justice over the death of my son who is just 26 years old. He can never die in vain, justice must prevail."

Speaking with the mother of the deceased, Mrs Dorcas Oladokun, who was also in tears said the death of Felix came as a shock to her because she never believed her son who was full of vision could die just like that. 

She stated further that Felix was the bread winner of the family and also  hardworking. 

some members of the church which Oluwadamilare worshipped before his death also spoke about how painful the death was to the entire church. 

They described him "as a gentle man to the core. A dedicated member of boys scouts of Nigeria." Brother Felix as you fondly called, we can't still believe that you have gone." 

The Chairman, Butchery Association, Atan, Ota, Ogun State, Ahaji Shittu Akeem, also confirmed that Damilare was not a criminal nor took part in any protest. 

He further stated that  the deceased was sent to collect money from customers before he met his untimely death.

Meanwhile, Ogun Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on October 21, 2020, issued a press statement that the peaceful protest embarked upon by youths across Ogun State is unfortunately taking a dangerous violent dimension as some people with ulterior motives are now using the opportunity to commit all sorts of heinous crimes.

"Early this morning, the protesters went to Atan-ota and set the Police station there ablaze and subsequently murdered the DCO, Dsp Augustine Ogbeche in cold blood. 

"A civilian also died in the process while some arms were carted away. They also inflicted serious injury on the DPO, SP Sikiru Olugbenga whose whereabout is yet unknown. Also in Abeokuta, some groups of boys attacked Obada-oko divisional headquarters and vandalized it.

"In view of this, the Commissioner of Police Ogun State Command, Edward A. Ajogun, is appealing  to the youths to eschew violence and embrace peace as violence will do no one good...
